Matthew Dugan, DO
- Medical Oncologist


Dr. Dugan is a native of Fairfield County, Connecticut. He received both a bachelor of arts in English and a bachelor of science in Biology at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania, Master’s ofScience at New York University, and ultimately, the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine for his medical degree. He completed his residency at Maine Medical Center, and hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont.
He joined New England Cancer Specialists in 2005, and is now most senior partner. He specializes in cancers of the aerodigestive tract. These include head and neck cancers, lung cancers and cancers of the gastrointestinal system, with focus on biliary and pancreatic malignancies. He also has a special interest in neuroendocrine tumors and GIST tumors.
Dr. Dugan is an associate instructor for Tufts University School of Medicine, at the University of Vermont, and the University of New England. He has published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Cancer Investigation, and many other peer-reviewed journals, as well as creative writing in Dr. Robert Coles’ anthology, A Life in Medicine. He has had multiple television, radio and podcast appearances. He has been principal investigator on multiple industry and cooperative group/collaborative clinical trials. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society, where he has had many scientific presentations.
Dr. Dugan resides in Falmouth with his wife and three children. His interests include all that involve Maine outdoors, travel, photography, and the culinary arts.
